Fire of Grace is the final studio album by American newgrass band Skyline, released in 1989 through Flying Fish Records. This album encapsulates the band’s innovative blend of traditional bluegrass with jazz-infused arrangements and rich vocal harmonies, marking a significant contribution to the progressive bluegrass genre.
Skyline, active from 1977 to 1989, was led by renowned banjoist Tony Trischka and featured members Danny Weiss (guitar, vocals), Larry Cohen (bass), Barry Mitterhoff (mandolin), and Rachel Kalem (keyboards), who replaced original vocalist Dede Wyland for this final release.
The album was recorded between February and August 1988 at Baby Monster Studios in Manhattan and Water Music Recorders in Hoboken, NJ. It showcases the band’s signature style, blending intricate instrumental work with harmonious vocals.
Fire of Grace stands as a testament to Skyline’s role in shaping the newgrass movement, offering a collection of tracks that highlight their musical prowess and innovative spirit.
