“Layla Revisited (Live at LOCKN’)” is a one-off live album by Tedeschi Trucks Band featuring Trey Anastasio, released July 16, 2021 via Fantasy Records. The recording captures the band’s unannounced full-album performance of Derek and the Dominos’ classic Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs on August 24, 2019, at the LOCKN’ Festival in Arrington, Virginia. Kept secret until the moment they took the stage, Susan Tedeschi’s soulful vocals and Derek Trucks’ searing slide guitar are complemented by Trey Anastasio’s fluid soloing, while longtime collaborator Doyle Bramhall II adds depth on guitar—creating a faithful yet invigorated take on the 1970 classic

Spanning three vinyl LPs, the album runs approximately 97 minutes and includes all twelve tracks from the original album plus the bonus instrumental “I Am Yours” exclusive to the vinyl edition. Standouts include an impassioned “Key to the Highway,” which extends into an 8-minute jam, a hauntingly resonant “Have You Ever Loved a Woman,” and a fiery 9-minute “Layla” that builds to an ecstatic crescendo. Throughout, the tight horn section and gospel-tinged backing vocals elevate the arrangements, underscoring the band’s ability to blend blues, rock, and improvisational jamming

The decision to perform Layla in its entirety bears personal significance: Derek Trucks was named for Duane Allman, co-guitarist on the original album, and the record’s November 9, 1970 release date coincides with Susan Tedeschi’s birthday. Trucks had already spent fifteen years touring with the Allman Brothers Band and with Eric Clapton, making this tribute both a musical and familial homage. Anastasio’s participation linked the jam-band community with the blues-rock lineage, delighting fans from both camps and reinforcing the LOCKN’ Festival’s reputation for spontaneous,

Critically acclaimed for its raw energy and reverent musicianship, “Layla Revisited” debuted at No. 15 on the Billboard 200, marking Tedeschi Trucks Band’s continued commercial success beyond their studio work. Reviewers noted that the surprise nature of the set and the band’s seamless integration of Trey Anastasio’s style into the Dominos’ legacy elevated the performance beyond mere nostalgia, transforming it into a vibrant celebration of rock history. As a standalone release, it stands as both a testament to the enduring power of Layla and a highlight in the live-recorded canon of Tedeschi Trucks Band.
