Description
The Cardigans – The Rest of the Best, Volume 2 – Double Vinyl Record
The Rest of the Best, Volume 2 collects The Cardigans material that existed beside the band’s later studio albums rather than on them. The 16-track set moves from Gran Turismo-era B-sides into alternate recordings connected with Long Gone Before Daylight and Super Extra Gravity.
“War” and “Deuce” capture the darker, more electronic edge of the late 1990s, while the band’s version of Kraftwerk’s “Das Model” makes the connection explicit without sounding like a simple imitation. Nina Persson’s controlled vocal keeps the cover inside The Cardigans’ own emotional world.
Polar session recordings of “For What It’s Worth” and “Communication” strip familiar songs into different shapes. “If There Is a Chance,” “Hold Me,” and “The Road” show the group’s gift for melancholy melody even when the recordings were originally assigned to singles or limited releases.
The collection becomes especially revealing through competing versions. “You’re the Storm” appears as both a Sandkvie session and an early demo, making changes in arrangement and emphasis easy to hear. “For the Boys,” “Slowdown Town,” and “Give Me Your Eyes” fill out the later chronology.
Pressed across two records, Volume 2 gives these scattered tracks a coherent home and complements the first volume without duplicating it. The sequence is valuable both as a rarities set and as an alternate route through the band’s transition from sleek pop experimentation to more organic, introspective writing.
Brand new, never played and still sealed in the factory plastic
