Compilation – Oi! 40 Years Untamed – Vinyl Record

Oi! 40 Years Untamed marks an anniversary by asking what the music was still doing, rather than simply replaying its earliest landmarks. Released by Pirates Press Records in 2020 and curated by Garry Bushell, the compilation looks back to the 1980 arrival of Oi! The Album while assembling a new fifteen-track program. Its cast brings long-established names together with later bands from an international street-punk network. The common ground is direct songwriting, forceful rhythms, and choruses built to carry more than one voice.

Cock Sparrer open with “Take It on the Chin,” giving the record an immediate connection to one of the scene’s most enduring bands. Cockney Rejects, The Last Resort, The Gonads, and The Business also appear, but the compilation does not treat those names as the entire story. Their presence gives the anniversary a historical foundation while the surrounding tracks show how widely the style traveled. That balance makes the album more useful as a view of a continuing musical community than as a replacement for an introductory history collection.

Bishops Green, Stomper 98, Lion’s Law, and NOi!SE bring different national and generational perspectives into the same program. The sequence allows their shared musical vocabulary to register without suggesting that all street punk sounds identical. “We Decide,” “Bessere Zeiten,” “Pathfinder,” and “Life in the Shade” sit alongside one another as distinct contributions from bands with their own voices. The international scope is one of the compilation’s strongest features, showing that the anniversary belongs to more than the place where the original movement took shape.

The Old Firm Casuals contribute “Noddy Holder” in its Bootboy Mix, making the connection between street punk and older British glam-rock culture explicit in the title. The Drowns’ “One More Pint,” Doug & The Slugz’s “Friday in Old Town,” and Crashed Out’s “Against All Odds” add further shades of communal energy and everyday experience. Prole and Gimp Fist complete a lineup that mixes different levels of familiarity, giving listeners room to encounter a new band while following names they already know.

The Business appear with “You Know My Name,” and NOi!SE bring the fifteen-track LP to its close. Oi! 40 Years Untamed is best understood as an anniversary snapshot assembled from active connections across the scene, with new and exclusive material central to its purpose. This vinyl edition preserves that curated program. It is a natural fit for listeners interested in the relationship between the original British Oi! bands and the later groups that carried its concise songs, collective choruses, and street-level perspective into other places and decades.

Brand new, never played and still sealed in the factory plastic
