Treponem Pal – Excess & Overdrive – Cassette
Treponem Pal, a French industrial metal band formed in 1986, released their third studio album, Excess & Overdrive, in 1993 under Roadrunner Records. The album was produced by Franz Treichler, the vocalist of The Young Gods, who had previously collaborated with the band on their 1989 debut.
The album was recorded at Studio des Forces Motrices in Geneva and mixed at Relief Studio in Fribourg. It features a blend of industrial music, hardcore, and tribal elements, reflecting the band’s experiences from their 1992 Lollapalooza tour with Ministry.
Excess & Overdrive is the band’s masterpiece, their compositions had matured significantly following their Lollapalooza tour. Guillou highlighted the deep, low vocals of Marco Neves and the intelligent guitar work, suggesting that the album would appeal to industrial music enthusiasts. The album surpassed their previous work, ‘Aggravation,’ possibly due to Treichler’s sharp production. Tracks like ‘Out of Reach,’ ‘Pushing You Too Far,’ and ‘Stoned’ featured tight arrangements that compensated for any language barriers in the lyrics.
The album was filled with sinister riffs and feedback, it tended to regress as it progressed. The sound and feedback effects were skillfully used, providing a sensory experience for the listener.
