Anne Hills – Woman Of Calm Heart – Vinyl Record

Woman of Calm Heart is an album by Anne Hills, an American folk singer-songwriter known for her poignant lyrics, emotive voice, and deeply reflective songs. Released in 1995, the album continues Hills’ tradition of crafting songs that explore themes of love, spirituality, emotional resilience, and personal introspection. Her music blends traditional folk with contemporary acoustic arrangements, and she is known for her collaborations with other folk musicians, including Tom Paxton and Michael Smith.

Released in 1987, this album features, among others, Livingston Taylor (vocals on ‘Akasha Wind’); Cindy Mangsen, Rory Block, Ilene Weiss on background vocals; Scott Petito on bass and keyboards, and Artie Traum on guitar. Petito and Traum also produced the album.

As Anne’s touring schedule and prominence grew, Flying Fish Records added Hogeye Records to their growing catalog. Shortly after the release of her second solo recording Woman of a Calm Heart (produced in Woodstock by Artie Traum and Scott Petito, featuring a duet with Livingston Taylor), Anne began her occasional but very fruitful musical partnership with Cindy Mangsen and Priscilla Herdman. This culminated in the first trio recording Voices (1990, Flying Fish).

Anne Hills’ music is rooted in traditional folk, with acoustic instrumentation that often includes guitar, piano, and light percussion. Her voice is soft and clear, providing a soothing, calm presence that perfectly aligns with the album’s title, ‘Woman of Calm Heart’.

The album features simple, elegant arrangements, allowing Hills’ voice and lyrics to take center stage. Hills is known for her storytelling ability, and the songs on this album are introspective, focusing on emotional experiences and personal growth. The overall tone of the album is calm and meditative, with a focus on emotional resilience and quiet strength.
