Brothers Osborne’s Port Saint Joe (released April 20, 2018 on EMI Nashville) is the duo’s second studio album, and it’s one of the clearest statements of what makes them stand out in modern country: they can write hooky, radio-ready songs, but they play with a Southern-rock bite and a musician’s feel that keeps everything physical and live-sounding.
The title isn’t just a vibe—it’s a real place and part of the album’s origin story. The record is named after Port St. Joe, Florida, and the band leaned into that Gulf-coast setting while making it, aiming for a sound that felt less “Nashville-perfect” and more like a band locked in together, with sand-and-sweat energy. Producer Jay Joyce returns from their debut and helps push the album toward a tighter, groove-driven style: thick guitars, punchy drums, and plenty of space for John Osborne’s playing to cut through.
It’s also a concise album by modern standards—10 tracks, 37:56—and it’s sequenced like a strong setlist rather than a streaming-era playlist. The lead single “Shoot Me Straight” sets the tone with a darker, barroom swagger (and became a signature song for them), while “I Don’t Remember Me (Before You)” shows the other side of the duo: emotionally direct writing built around TJ Osborne’s vocal delivery rather than a big guitar payoff. Elsewhere you get fast, riffy cuts (“A Little Bit Trouble,” “Tequila Again”) and more reflective material, but the through-line is always the same: groove first, guitars that feel like they’re played by a rock band, and country writing that doesn’t sand down the rough edges.
