Push Pull is the sixth studio album by Hoobastank, released in 2018. It arrived more than a decade after their previous album For(N)ever, marking the band’s return after a long recording hiatus. During that time, Hoobastank continued to tour and revisit their earlier material, but Push Pull represents a deliberate effort to explore a new musical direction rather than simply revisiting the post-grunge sound that originally brought them widespread attention in the early 2000s.
The album moves away from the heavy alternative rock and post-grunge style that defined earlier hits like “The Reason” and “Crawling in the Dark.” Instead, Push Pull leans into a smoother blend of pop, funk, R&B, and groove-oriented rock. The production features prominent bass lines, rhythmic guitar parts, and polished keyboard textures that give the songs a more relaxed, contemporary feel. Many of the tracks focus on rhythm and atmosphere rather than aggressive guitar riffs, showing the band experimenting with a broader palette of influences.
