Beautifully Broken places Jelly Roll’s country, rock, gospel, and hip-hop instincts inside songs about survival that do not pretend recovery moves in a straight line. The album follows the crossover success of Whitsitt Chapel while keeping the autobiographical candor that built his audience. On the physical CD, fourteen tracks move between public anthems and private admissions, repeatedly returning to the idea that damage can remain visible without becoming the only truth about a person.
“Winning Streak” opens by questioning what victory means when old habits still wait nearby. “Burning” carries that conflict into a more urgent frame, and “Heart of Stone” examines the defenses built to survive pain. “I Am Not Okay” becomes the album’s clearest communal statement. Its chorus admits struggle without treating admission as defeat, creating a song broad enough for arena participation while remaining rooted in the isolation that often precedes asking for help.
“When the Drugs Don’t Work,” featuring Ilsey, looks at intimacy when chemical escape has stopped providing relief. “Higher Than Heaven” brings Wiz Khalifa into a genre-blending collaboration, while “Liar” turns confrontation inward and outward at once. The sequence keeps temptation and responsibility close together. Jelly Roll’s rough voice can sound bruised, defiant, or prayerful within a few lines, and the production supports those changes with guitars, programmed rhythm, piano, and choir-like lift.
“Everyone Bleeds” widens the record’s empathy before “Get By” leans into the stubborn routines people use to reach another day. “Unpretty” and “Grace” address shame from different angles, one exposing the hurt attached to judgment and the other searching for undeserved mercy. These songs do not offer a polished self-help progression. They reflect the way encouragement, anger, relapse, faith, and humor can coexist for someone trying to change without erasing the past.
The closing run includes “What It Takes,” “Hey Mama,” and “Time of Day,” the latter featuring mgk. Family, gratitude, and complicated loyalty become part of the recovery story, preventing the album from ending as a purely individual triumph. The collaborations also show how naturally Jelly Roll moves between country radio, rock, rap, and pop melody. Despite the varied surface, the consistent subject is the difficult choice to remain present when disappearance once felt easier.
BBR Music Group and Republic Records released Beautifully Broken on October 11, 2024. This UPC identifies the standard fourteen-track compact disc sold in the United States. Digital and deluxe editions contain additional songs, so their longer lists should not be applied to this physical copy. The CD preserves a focused version of the album from “Winning Streak” through “Time of Day,” suited to listeners drawn to candid songwriting, large choruses, and genre boundaries that remain deliberately permeable.
