ROLE MODEL – Kansas Anymore (The Longest Goodbye) – Canary Yellow Double Vinyl Record
Kansas Anymore (The Longest Goodbye) expands ROLE MODEL's second studio album into a complete two-record statement about leaving, remembering, and trying to understand where home belongs. Tucker Pillsbury wrote the original Kansas Anymore after relocating from Maine to Los Angeles, using distance from family and familiar places as the emotional frame for songs about love, regret, and isolation. The Longest Goodbye edition adds four songs to the 2024 album, allowing its story of dislocation and attachment to arrive on vinyl in an extended seventeen-track sequence.
The opening run establishes the album's conversational character. “Writing's on the Wall” and “Look at That Woman” turn private realization into melodies that feel immediate without losing their uneasy details. “Scumbag” examines self-awareness that does not automatically produce better behavior, while “Oh, Gemini” and “Frances” place names and personalities inside compact scenes. Pillsbury's writing often sounds casual at first, but the plain language carries specific emotional consequences as one admission leads into another.
“Superglue,” “The Dinner,” and “Deeply Still in Love” move between intimacy and the awkwardness of trying to maintain it. The arrangements favor guitar-led pop, folk-pop warmth, and uncluttered rhythm rather than oversized production. That restraint keeps attention on changes in tone: a joke can become an apology, or a romantic memory can reveal how far two people have moved apart. The interlude that follows gives the first half a deliberately unfinished edge before the expanded material opens a different perspective.
Lizzy McAlpine joins “So Far Gone,” bringing a second voice to a song about recognizing distance after it has already taken hold. “Slipfast,” “Compromise,” and “Something, Somehow, Someday” continue the album's interest in imperfect timing and negotiated closeness. Producer Noah Conrad helps maintain continuity across the collection, while contributions associated with Mason Stoops and Harrison Whitford support its lived-in guitar sound. The performances remain polished, but small pauses and rough emotional turns keep them from feeling overly arranged.
The final side contains the additions that give this edition its subtitle. “Old Recliners” uses an ordinary household image to suggest stability and age, and “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out” follows attraction beyond the easy part of an evening. “Some Protector” questions whether good intentions provide real protection, while “The Longest Goodbye” supplies a closing phrase for the album's lingering separations. Together, these songs make the deluxe sequence feel like a continuation rather than a bundle of unrelated extras.
Released July 18, 2025 by Mad Love and Interscope Records, this physical edition presents all seventeen tracks across two canary-yellow vinyl records. It is the expanded Longest Goodbye configuration, not the original single-album program, compact disc, digital release, or another color variant. The double-LP layout gives the longer sequence room to unfold over four sides, and UPC 602478044700 identifies the exact edition.
