Romanza is the collection that carried Andrea Bocelli from Italian success to an international audience. Issued in 1997, it gathers defining early performances that bridge operatic technique, Italian pop songwriting, and studio ballad production. “Con te partirò” stands at the center, but the album’s enduring appeal comes from the broader portrait of a singer developing a crossover language.
“Vivere,” featuring Gerardina Trovato, and “Per amore” place Bocelli in contemporary arrangements while preserving the long melodic line of his tenor. “Il mare calmo della sera,” the song that helped launch his recording career, carries a more dramatic sweep, and “Caruso” connects him to Lucio Dalla’s modern Italian standard.
The middle of the album moves through “Macchine da guerra,” “Le tue parole,” “Vivo per lei” with Giorgia, and the title track. Synthesizers and pop rhythm are characteristic of the period, yet Bocelli’s vocal production gives the songs a scale beyond conventional adult contemporary music.
“La luna che non c’è,” “Rapsodia,” “Voglio restare così,” “E chiove,” and the live “Miserere” deepen the Italian program before “Time to Say Goodbye” with Sarah Brightman supplies the international finale. The duet’s ceremonial grandeur became inseparable from Bocelli’s public identity.
This translucent red double-vinyl edition contains fifteen tracks. The colored 2LP format is a specific variant and is identified separately from black-vinyl and later anniversary packages.
