Ratos de Porao is a Brazilian punk rock band that was formed in Sao Paulo in 1981. The name ‘Ratos de Porao’ translates to ‘Basement Rats’ in English. They are considered one of the pioneers of the Brazilian punk and hardcore scenes and have been highly influential in the development of the punk rock genre in Brazil.
Ratos de Porao’s music is characterized by fast and aggressive guitar riffs, pounding rhythms, and politically charged lyrics that address social issues, corruption, and inequality. They are known for their raw and energetic sound, combining elements of punk, hardcore, and thrash metal.
Ratos de Porao has released numerous albums, including their debut ‘Crucificados pelo Sistema’ in 1984, which is regarded as a classic in the Brazilian punk scene. Other notable albums include ‘Descanse em Paz’ (1986), ‘Anarkophobia’ (1991), and ‘Homem Inimigo do Homem’ (2014).
