Sam Smith’s Love Goes is their third studio album, released on October 30, 2020 through Capitol Records. The project went through significant changes before release—it was originally scheduled for earlier in 2020 under the title To Die For, but the title and tracklist were revised following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Love Goes expands beyond the piano-led ballad style that defined Smith’s earlier work (In the Lonely Hour and The Thrill of It All). While emotional ballads remain central, the album incorporates dance-pop, electronic, and club influences, reflecting Smith’s growing interest in uptempo production and collaboration with DJs and pop producers.
The album includes previously released singles such as “Dancing with a Stranger” (with Normani), which became a global hit, and “How Do You Sleep?”, a sleek, synth-driven pop track. Other key songs include “Diamonds,” “Kids Again,” and the title track “Love Goes.” The expanded 2020 edition also features collaborations with artists like Calvin Harris (from the earlier single “Promises”) and Demi Lovato on “I’m Ready.”

Compared to their earlier material, Love Goes shows a broader tonal range—balancing introspective ballads with more confident, dance-oriented tracks. Love Goes debuted at No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and reached the Top 5 in the United States.
