Amy Grant and Vince Gill – When I Think of Christmas – Olive Green Vinyl Record

When I Think of Christmas brings Amy Grant and Vince Gill’s holiday recordings together in a program shaped by both their separate careers and their shared seasonal concerts. Released in 2024, the collection alternates their voices before bringing them together for its closing duet. The result has a clear personal character: established Christmas standards sit beside songs closely associated with Grant’s own holiday repertoire, while Gill’s performances draw on the warmth and control of his country singing. The album is built around familiar material, but the choice of performers gives each selection a particular setting.

Grant opens with the newly recorded title song, placing a contemporary expression of holiday feeling at the front of the collection. Gill follows with “The Christmas Song,” a standard whose familiar melody leaves the singer’s phrasing and tone especially exposed. That alternation continues through “Winter Wonderland” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” allowing the two vocal approaches to complement one another without becoming indistinguishable. Grant’s clear, conversational delivery and Gill’s more sustained country phrasing create variety within a consistently welcoming sound. The sequence lets the voices establish their own identities before the later duet brings them together.

“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” supplies one of the program’s more outwardly festive moments, while “Do You Hear What I Hear” introduces a more reflective dimension. The second side opens with “Tennessee Christmas,” a song that has become an especially recognizable part of Grant’s seasonal work. Its sense of place gives the collection something more specific than a succession of widely performed standards. The album’s connection to the pair’s long-running Christmas concerts helps explain that emphasis, with familiar songs carrying the accumulated associations of repeated performances and shared occasions.

The later selections turn more directly toward the spiritual side of the season. Gill’s “O Come All Ye Faithful” and “O Holy Night” frame Grant’s “Breath of Heaven (Mary’s Song),” a piece whose intimate perspective differs from the larger declarations of the traditional carols. The contrast gives this part of the record a clear emotional progression. Rather than making every song equally grand, the program moves between public celebration and a more private form of reflection. The singers’ ability to sustain a melody without forcing its feeling is particularly important in this setting.

The album closes with Grant and Gill together on “’Til the Season Comes Around Again,” giving the alternating performances a point of reunion. This olive green vinyl edition presents the complete eleven-song collection, including the title recording made for the release. When I Think of Christmas is well suited to listeners who appreciate holiday music grounded in recognizable voices and carefully chosen repertoire. Its strongest quality is the balance between the two singers: each brings an established relationship to these songs, and their shared performance at the close makes the collection feel connected to a continuing musical partnership rather than an arbitrary anthology.
