Il Mare Calmo della Sera is Andrea Bocelli’s 1994 debut album, originally released only in Italy and now presented on vinyl for the first time. It captures the singer before Romanza made him an international figure, moving between contemporary Italian songs, sacred repertoire, and operatic arias with a voice already recognizable in scale and tone.
The title track was central to Bocelli’s breakthrough, and its broad melodic rise sets the album’s character. “Rapsodia,” “Ave Maria No Morro,” and “Vivere” with Gerardina Trovato show how the early repertoire joined pop production to a classically trained tenor without forcing either side to disappear.
“La luna che non c’è” and “Caruso” deepen the Italian songbook connection, while “Miserere” recalls Bocelli’s association with Zucchero. “Panis Angelicus” then turns toward sacred music, allowing his sustained line and formal breath control to come fully forward.
The final sides include arias from Verdi, Puccini, Bizet, and Cilea, followed by a live classical version of “Sogno.” That expanded sequence makes the release a fuller portrait of Bocelli’s early dual identity: popular recording artist and operatic tenor.
This two-LP edition contains thirteen tracks and marks the album’s first vinyl issue. The side order below follows the physical release, including the live “Sogno” finale.
