The band behind him is locked in. Dr. Know’s guitar work moves between jagged riffs and heavy, almost metal-leaning lines, while Darrell Jenifer’s bass anchors everything with a deep, steady presence. Earl Hudson’s drumming keeps the whole thing tight—never flashy, always driving.
Tracks like “Re-Ignition” and “Secret 77” show that shift clearly. The songs breathe more. They build tension instead of just exploding. And when they hit, they land with force.
There’s also the reggae influence, still present but integrated differently. Instead of feeling like a separate identity, it flows into the album’s overall structure, reinforcing the band’s roots while expanding their sound.
The production is cleaner than their earlier work, but not polished to the point of losing edge. It gives the music definition—each instrument hits clearly, each shift in rhythm or tone comes through with intention.
