Locust Abortion Technician is the third studio album by the American alternative rock band Butthole Surfers. It was released in 1987 and is considered one of their most significant and influential works. The album showcases the band’s distinct and experimental sound, blending elements of punk, psychedelia, noise rock, and avant-garde.
Butthole Surfers, formed in San Antonio, Texas, in 1981, gained a reputation for their chaotic live performances and unconventional approach to music. The band consisted of Gibby Haynes (vocals), Paul Leary (guitar), Jeff Pinkus (bass), King Coffey (drums), and Teresa Nervosa (drums, second drummer).
Locust Abortion Technician features a raw and abrasive sound with psychedelic undertones and disturbing lyrics. The album’s title and cover art reflect the band’s provocative and eccentric style.

Locust Abortion Technician helped solidify Butthole Surfers’ status as pioneers of the alternative and underground music scene. The album’s blend of punk, psychedelia, and noise was ahead of its time and has since influenced many artists in various genres. It remains a classic and essential release in the band’s discography.
