Controlled Bleeding – Trudge – Vinyl Record
The album Trudge by Controlled Bleeding, released in 1989, marks a significant shift in the band’s musical direction. This album stands out in their discography as it embraces a more structured form of industrial rock, integrating heavy, rhythmic elements with the noise and experimental sounds that characterized their earlier work.
Trudge delves into a realm where industrial meets groove, incorporating pronounced drum machines, rhythmic synths, and more coherent vocal lines compared to their previous releases. This blend creates a visceral yet danceable sound. The tracks are layered with dense, textured soundscapes that still maintain the dark, unsettling aesthetic typical of Controlled Bleeding’s music.
The album as a whole can be seen as a narrative of persistence and resilience, as implied by its title. Songs like the titular track ‘Words’ convey a feeling of relentless movement through oppressive environments, which is a theme often explored in industrial music. This thematic and sonic shift likely helped Controlled Bleeding reach a wider audience, appealing not only to fans of avant-garde and experimental music but also to those who gravitate towards the industrial and EBM (Electronic Body Music) scenes.
Trudge is notable for its complexity and the way it captures the band’s ability to evolve. It showcases Controlled Bleeding’s talent for redefining their sound while staying true to their roots in the experimental and industrial genres. This album is a key piece in understanding the trajectory of their musical evolution during a pivotal time in the industrial music landscape.
