Description
Dos – Dos – Vinyl Record
Dos is the debut album by the American punk rock band Dos. The band Dos is notable for being a two-piece outfit consisting of bassists, with Mike Watt and Kira Roessler as its members. Both Watt and Roessler were former members of the influential punk bands Minutemen and Black Flag, respectively.
Dos was released in 1986 and is characterized by its minimalist approach to punk rock. The album consists primarily of bass guitar and vocals, with occasional percussion. This stripped-down sound allows the bass to take center stage and showcases the musicians’ creative and experimental approach to music.
The actual origin of Dos came about in the fall of 1985 when Watt and Kira, who were already dating, began improvising two-bass jams in their free time, sometimes recording these results into Watt’s four-track recording machine.
Mike Watt has been a member of The Reactionaries, Minutemen, fIREHOSE, Banyan and the reunited The Stooges, while Roessler was in Black Flag for about two years.
Kira – Bass – (Kira Roessler (b. June 12 1961) replaced Chuck Dukowski as bass player in Black Flag. She is sister to The Screamers’ keyboardist Paul Roessler. She joined when the band heard her sitting in with L.A. punk group DC3. After Black Flag, she formed the two-bass duo Dos with Mike Watt (to whom she was married between 1987 and 1994), and contributed material to what would be the Minutemen’s final album, 3-Way Tie (For Last), and to Watt’s post-Minutemen band fIREHOSE. She later contributed some artwork to Watt’s first solo album Ball-Hog or Tugboat?.
The album Dos is appreciated by fans of punk rock for its raw and unconventional sound. It’s a testament to Mike Watt and Kira Roessler’s willingness to push the boundaries of punk and explore new musical territories.
