Eric Clapton’s The Lady in the Balcony: Lockdown Sessions, released on November 12, 2021, is a deeply intimate and soulful return to root, a stripped-down, mostly acoustic set recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conceived in response to the cancellation of Clapton’s 2021 concert dates, this project finds him reconnecting with longtime collaborators and his musical essence in a quiet, almost meditative setting. More than just a live-in-studio performance, The Lady in the Balcony feels like a private concert without an audience, designed not for spectacle but for emotion, reflection, and musical communion.
The album was recorded at Cowdray House in West Sussex, a stately countryside estate that lent the sessions a sense of warmth and seclusion.
