PTP (Programming the PsychoDrill) was a short-lived industrial music side project formed by members of the band Ministry. Their 1989 single, “Rubber Glove Seduction,” stands as a notable example of the late 1980s industrial scene, blending aggressive electronic beats with provocative lyrics.
PTP was conceived by Al Jourgensen and Paul Barker of Ministry, alongside Chris Connelly. The project allowed them to explore experimental sounds beyond their primary band’s scope. “Rubber Glove Seduction” was released in 1989 under Wax Trax! Records and later reissued in 1993 by TVT Records.
The track features a driving electronic rhythm, characteristic of the industrial genre, with layered synthesizers and distorted vocals. Connelly’s deadpan delivery of lines like “Tick tick tock I am the kitchen clock” adds to the song’s unsettling atmosphere. The B-side, “My Favorite Things,” complements the A-side with its throbbing bass line and guitar solo.
Rubber Glove Seduction became a club hit, showcasing the collaborative spirit of the industrial music community. Its fusion of electronic elements with rock instrumentation influenced subsequent artists within the genre. The track remains a significant piece of industrial music history, reflecting the experimental nature of late 1980s alternative music.
The cover model on this release is Laura Gomel of The Bomb Gang Girlz, the co-conspirators of PTP’s Wax Trax! Records labelmates My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult in the late 1980s and early/mid-1990s.
