Quincy Jones – You’ve Got It Bad Girl – 180 Gram Vinyl Record
You’ve Got It Bad Girl captures Quincy Jones at the point where his jazz background, film arranging, and growing interest in contemporary soul became inseparable. Released in 1973, the album treats recent pop material, television themes, and Afro-Cuban repertoire as parts of one modern orchestral language.
“Summer in the City” transforms the Lovin’ Spoonful song into a slow, atmospheric groove. Layers of electric keyboard, percussion, and wordless vocal color replace the original’s rock attack. “Eyes of Love” and the medley dedicated to Aretha Franklin continue the album’s soft-focus side without losing harmonic detail.
Jones’s theme from The Getaway brings cinematic tension into the sequence, while the title track uses guest vocals and a relaxed soul arrangement. His reading of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” emphasizes ensemble color rather than copying the original single.
“Manteca” reconnects the record to big-band and Afro-Cuban jazz through a contemporary studio sound. The immediately recognizable “Sanford and Son Theme,” also known as “The Streetbeater,” adds wit and rhythmic snap, and “Chump Change” closes with another example of Jones’s television writing.
This 180-gram vinyl edition presents the complete nine-track album. It is an ideal document of Jones as arranger and producer: every performance has a distinct identity, yet the sequencing makes jazz improvisation, soundtrack craft, and early-1970s soul feel naturally connected.
Brand new, never played and still sealed in the factory plastic
