Description
The Cardigans – The Rest of the Best, Volume 1 – Double Vinyl Record
The Rest of the Best, Volume 1 gathers the recordings that surrounded The Cardigans’ first three albums. These B-sides, alternate takes, and covers show the Swedish band developing its deceptively light surface, where lounge-pop arrangements and Nina Persson’s calm delivery often carried darker humor underneath.
Early songs such as “Pooh Song,” “After All…,” and “I Figured Out” retain the intimate charm of Emmerdale and Life. “Laika” and “Plain Parade” reveal how quickly the group learned to turn unusual lyrical ideas into concise melodic pop.
Alternate versions are central to the set. The Puck recordings of “Carnival” and “Lovefool” expose different balances of rhythm, guitar, and vocal phrasing, while “Happy Meal” and “Celia Inside” demonstrate how strong songs could change character outside their familiar album mixes.
The Cardigans’ heavy-metal covers remain among their most distinctive side projects. Early readings of Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” and “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath,” Thin Lizzy’s “The Boys Are Back in Town,” and Ozzy Osbourne’s “Mr. Crowley” replace weight with elegance without treating the source material as a joke.
This double-vinyl edition sequences 16 early-period rarities as a coherent companion album. Volume 1 is useful for collectors, but it also tells a clear story about the band’s growth from small-scale indie pop toward the sharper production and global success of First Band on the Moon.
Brand new, never played and still sealed in the factory plastic
