The Coup De Grace – The Coup De Grace – Vinyl Record
The Coup De Grace is the self-titled debut album by the American hard rock band The Coup De Grace, released on vinyl record in 1989. The album features a mix of heavy, guitar-driven rock and melodic, radio-friendly songs that showcase the band’s versatility and musical prowess.
The album’s opening track, “Daylight Dawning,” sets the tone with its driving rhythm section and soaring guitar riffs, while the anthemic chorus showcases the band’s knack for writing catchy hooks. Other standout tracks on the album include “Burning With Optimism,” a bluesy rocker with a killer guitar solo, and “All of the Above,” a tongue-in-cheek ode to the trials and tribulations of being in a rock band.
Musically, the vinyl record is characterized by its raw and powerful sound, with the guitars and drums coming through with an aggressive punch that is perfect for the genre. The vinyl format also allows for a warmer and more authentic sound that captures the energy and spirit of the band’s live performances.
Originally released on Twin/Tone in 1990 but reissued on Caroline’s Red Decibel subsidiary in 1993 (possibly because Dave Pirner of then-hot Soul Asylum had produced the album), the self-titled debut by the Coup de Grace is a mixture of hardcore thrash and speed metal. The two styles fit together so well, after all, Metallica and the Melvins are just two fruits from the same Blue Cheer-meets-Black Sabbath tree that it’s at times impossible to distinguish which elements of which songs come from which antecedent.
