Pretenders – The Isle of View is a live album by the British-American rock band The Pretenders. Released in 1995, it features a stripped-down acoustic performance by the band, recorded live at Jacob Street Studios in London. The album showcases reimagined versions of some of The Pretenders’ popular songs, presented in an intimate and acoustic setting.
The Isle of View includes renditions of hits such as “Back on the Chain Gang,” “I’ll Stand by You,” and “Brass in Pocket,” among others. The album also features a cover of the Jimi Hendrix classic “May This Be Love.” In addition to the live tracks, there are also studio-recorded versions of two new songs: “I’m Not in Love” and “Night in My Veins.”
This release demonstrated a different side of The Pretenders’ music, with a focus on acoustic arrangements and Chrissie Hynde’s emotive vocals. “The Isle of View” received positive reviews for its intimate atmosphere and the band’s reinterpretations of their own material.
