Grey is primarily associated with the no wave movement, a genre of music and art that emerged in New York City in the late 1970s and early 1980s. No wave was characterized by its rejection of traditional musical structures and its embrace of dissonance, noise, and experimentation.
Rudolph Grey is perhaps best known for his work with the band Red Transistor, which he formed in the late 1970s alongside musician and artist Glenn Branca. Red Transistor released a self-titled album in 1978, which has since become a cult classic among fans of experimental music.
