Ratt – Dancing Undercover is an album by the American rock band Ratt. Dancing Undercover was released in 1986 and is the band’s third studio album. It features a mix of hard rock and glam metal songs, characteristic of Ratt’s style during that era.
The album includes tracks like ‘Dance,’ ‘Body Talk,’ and ‘Slip of the Lip,’ which were well-received and became staples of the band’s live performances. ‘Dancing Undercover’ contributed to Ratt’s commercial success in the 1980s and solidified their presence in the glam metal scene.
Dancing Undercover is Ratt’s third full length album. It was produced by Beau Hill. The album contained the hits ‘Dance’, ‘Slip of the Lip’, and ‘Body Talk’. ‘Body Talk’ was later used as a soundtrack for the Eddie Murphy film, The Golden Child.
Dancing Undercover also proved to be the band’s heaviest album ever released, most notably with the song ‘Body Talk’. This lead many ‘Ratt N’ Rollers’ (what their fanbase is colloquially referred to as) to infer that Ratt was headed to a more thrash metal sound comparable to Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer. This proved not to be the case as the band added a bluesier element to their signature glam metal sound throughout their succeeding three albums.
Fans of 1980s hard rock and glam metal often appreciate this album for its catchy melodies and energetic guitar-driven sound. It’s considered a significant part of Ratt’s discography and a representation of the music scene during that era.
