Description
The Doobie Brothers – Liberté – Vinyl Record
Liberté is the Doobie Brothers’ first album of new original material in more than a decade, recorded by the Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons, John McFee, and Ed Toth lineup. Released in 2021, it does not attempt to recreate one exact period of the band’s long history. Instead, the album draws on the acoustic textures, twin-guitar drive, close harmonies, and road-tested rhythmic feel that have connected the group’s different eras.
“Oh Mexico” opens with an easy coastal rhythm and the travel-minded perspective that suits the band’s California roots. “Better Days” turns toward resilience, while “Don’t Ya Mess with Me” adds a tougher guitar attack. “Cannonball” carries a rolling pulse, and “Wherever We Go” uses shared vocals to emphasize companionship rather than individual spotlight.
“The American Dream” addresses national promises and disappointments without abandoning the direct language of a rock song. “Shine Your Light” follows with a warmer, gospel-tinged message. The sequence then moves through the relationship-centered “We Are More Than Love” and the relaxed “Easy,” allowing Johnston’s grit and Simmons’s smoother phrasing to provide natural contrast.
“Just Can’t Do This Alone” makes the group’s ensemble identity explicit. “Good Thang” restores a loose, bluesy groove before “Amen Old Friend” closes with a reflective farewell. Producer John Shanks keeps the guitars clear and the vocals forward, giving the record a contemporary finish without removing the organic interplay expected from the Doobie Brothers.
This Island Records vinyl edition presents all 12 songs from Liberté and is identified by UPC 602438749621. The single-LP program preserves the album’s movement from open-road rock through social reflection and its quiet closing statement. It is the standard studio release, not a greatest-hits package or live recording.
Brand new, never played and still sealed in the factory plastic
